HOTEL LUX ENGLISH DISEASE

Despite its humorous intentions, the new single from Pompey boys Hotel Lux is a scarily accurate insight to the quirks of English lad culture. With bright, gritty guitars channelling that classic British rock band sound, a leering bass line lurks beneath as vocalist Lewis Duffin spits stereotypes like there's no tomorrow. With the rest of the band piping up to join in the inebriated-sounding chorus, 'English Disease' is an annoyingly-catchy sonic caricature of Brexit Britain. Duffin explains, “The tune started as a joke initially. It’s intended as a bit of a tongue in cheek dig at ‘lad culture’. The song came about all sat around in our front room humming away melodies, trying to work out which would be best and went with that. The chorus was a bit of a joke too, found the idea Jean-Paul Satre and Danny Dyer side by side quite funny. Two of the greatest philosophical minds of the 20th and 21th centuries respectively.” -Holly Mullineaux
